Sign-up & requirements

4 questions

ID card or passport, a biometric passport photo, your eye test (no older than 2 years), and confirmation of your first-aid course. For BF17, you'll also need parental consent. We handle the rest with you on site. Signing up takes about 15 minutes.

Category B: 6 months before your 18th birthday, BF17: 6 months before your 17th. You can start theory earlier. You're allowed to drive once you reach the minimum age.

You need your main residence in Germany and to be reachable within our catchment area. We're happy to take students with a second residence. Just get in touch.

BF17 is accompanied driving from age 17. You complete the full training just like Category B, take the test at 17, and then drive with a registered accompanying person (at least 30 years old, holding Category B for at least 5 years). You can sign up 6 months before your 17th birthday, and start theory about 3 months earlier. At 18, the accompanying person requirement drops. The licence itself stays the same.

Costs & payment

4 questions

The total cost depends on your driving lessons. Beginners need 25 on average, some need 35. We'll tell you honestly where you stand and give you the exact total at your free consultation.

Yes, instalment payments are possible. We'll discuss the exact terms individually at your consultation.

You pay for the retest and possibly a few extra preparation lessons. No penalty, no fuss. Some people fail the first time, and that's not the end of the world. We talk about it openly and calmly prepare you for the retake.

No. Every item is listed on our prices page. Including TÜV fees, which we pass on 1:1. We don't earn anything on the eye test or first-aid course.

Theory & practice

5 questions

14 double-lessons of 90 minutes each. 12 core topics plus 2 category-specific ones. You can take them in person with us or combine them with the app.

The official FAHREN LERNEN app from Verlag Heinrich Vogel. With original exam questions, available in 8 languages. The cost is included in the base fee.

By law, 12 special drives are mandatory (5 rural roads, 4 motorway, 3 night). The driving lessons beforehand are individual. On average, our students end up with 25 to 30 total lessons for Category B.

Yes, in manual and automatic (B197. Equivalent to classic manual training since 2021). With automatic, you need 10 additional manual lessons before the test, and then you're allowed to drive both.

Category B realistically takes 6 to 10 weeks if you stay on it. Theory: 14 double-lessons, practice: 12 mandatory lessons plus driving lessons. If you go full throttle during the holidays, you can do it in 4 weeks. If you're studying alongside it, more like 3 months. We plan the pace honestly together with you. No pressure, no quick-licence scheme.

Reform 2027 & the future

3 questions

Theory lessons will likely become fully available digitally, the number of special drives will be reduced, and simulators will be integrated. The exact regulations are expected in Q3 2026.

Clear answer: start now. Today's rules are more favourable in many ways (more mandatory lessons = more practice = a higher pass rate). And delays in implementing the reform are realistic. More on our reform page.

EU-wide from 2030. Before that, a German version will already be available in 2027 (eFührerschein in the eID app). Your plastic licence remains valid in parallel.
